ASSOCIATION OF KIMBERLEY
THE ORIGIN OF HOSPICE
For hundreds of years hospices - built and staffed by monks - cared for sick and weary travellers who were making their way across Europe.
The first modern hospice was established in London in 1967, with the specific purpose of being uniquely responsive to the needs of the dying and their families.
WHAT DOES THE MODERN HOSPICE DO?
- It assists the terminally ill person to live in a comfortable, pain-free manner at home.
- It helps keep the family unit intact.
- It improves the quality of life - and emphasises the sanctity
FOR WHOM DOES HOSPICE CARE?
Hospice care is available to any person who has a life-limiting illness - of any description - irrespective of race, creed, age, sex or whatever their financial resources may be.
WHAT SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE?

- Emotional and spiritual support for the patient and his family
- Legal and financial advice if required
- Co-ordination with other community services
- Transportation and meals will also be provided, if necessary
