Upington Adventures

  • Kalahari Oranje Museum

  • Kalahari 4X4 Trail:
    This is a tough trail of 250 km and the only one in the sandy regions of South Africa. It can be done in two to three days while a thatched hut complete with flush toilet, running water and a bar, sleeps eight people.

  • Ghamuip 4x4 Trail:
    This trail with a distance of 50km will take you approximately four to six hours to complete. It can be visited all year round and have a difficulty rating of moderate. The rout will take you trough a mixture of terrains; from Kalahari sands to rocky hills with an abundance of wildlife.

  • Mier area:
    This is one of the areas which was recently redistributed to its original inhabitants. Here you will find a pristine southern Kalahari wilderness area with dunes averaging 35 m in height. You will never forget your visit to Mier.

  • Kalahari Mier 4x4 Trail:
    A moderate to difficult trail of 400 km which can be done in 4 days. There are escape routes for those who needs a shorter route. This route will test your sand driving abilities to the  utmost. Most of the distance is done on Kalahari sand dunes. A large percentage of the cost of going on this trail is donated to the impoverished people at Mier. 

  • Orange River Wine Cellars:
    Situated in the industrial area of Upington, you will find the five cellar co-operative, the largest in the country and the second largest in the world. Wine tasting and tours are offered.

  • Spitskop Nature Reserve:
    A small game park approximately 13 km north of the town. It is stocked with gemsbok, zebra, springbok, ostrich eland, hartebeest and mountain zebra.

  • Sport:
    Because of the high temperatures in summer, it is no wonder that water sport is the most popular in this area. Amongst others, it includes boating, canoeing, fishing, water skiing and swimming. There are three swimming pools, bowling greens and an 18 hole golf course. Facilities are open to all visitors.
